We have received a supplemental award under the Data Science for Child Health Now in Ghana (DS-CHANGE) Project to support trainees in developing skills in team science and collaborative approaches to addressing health-related challenges through a team science practicum.
As part of this initiative, we are organizing a four-day workshop to prepare participants for the practicum. The workshop will bring together healthcare professionals from partner hospitals, biomedical data analysts and students, bioinformaticians, public health professionals, academics, and other technical experts to explore how interdisciplinary teams can work effectively to address real-world health challenges.
We would be delighted to have you participate in the workshop. In addition to contributing your expertise, your participation will provide an opportunity to gain practical experience in overseeing, mentoring, and supervising interdisciplinary projects of this nature.
The DS-CHANGE Team Science Practicum for Students, Faculty, and Healthcare Professionals is designed to strengthen interdisciplinary collaboration and build the capacity of participants to transform routinely generated clinical data into meaningful research, innovation, and health solutions.
Under the theme “From Clinical Data to Health Solutions: Building Interdisciplinary Teams for Research and Biomedical Data Science,” participants will examine the key challenges involved in converting routine healthcare data into high-quality, research-ready datasets. Discussions will address areas such as data quality and standardization, clinical workflows, privacy and ethics, data governance, infrastructure, and analytical capacity.
A major focus of the practicum will be the proposed Integrated Clinical Data Intelligence and Research Enablement Platform. Through interactive discussions, expertise-mapping exercises, design labs, and team-based activities, participants will work together to:
- Define the requirements of the proposed platform;
- Design a clinical-to-research data pipeline;
- Identify feasible interdisciplinary research and data science projects;
- Establish practicum teams and thematic workstreams; and
- Develop clear responsibilities, milestones, deliverables, and measures of success.
The workshop will progress through four stages, Connect & Engage, Define, Design, and Plan & Deliver and will culminate in a shared implementation framework and an actionable 12-month roadmap for the practicum.
We hope you will be able to join us as we bring together clinical expertise, biomedical data science, public health, and Team Science to transform health data into impactful research, innovation, and better health outcomes.
