Description

The Data Science for Child Health Now in Ghana (DS-CHANGE) Training Program is dedicated to building data science capacity at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). Our mission is to develop a cadre of highly qualified data scientists focused on addressing critical child health challenges in Ghana.

Through mentored training and experiential learning, the program integrates expertise from multiple disciplines, including applied mathematics, computer science, clinical informatics, biostatistics, and epidemiology. Faculty and graduate trainees collaborate to tackle computationally complex child health problems, with a focus on malaria, injury, and congenital anomalies (such as orofacial clefts)—three of the top ten causes of child mortality and disability in Ghana.   

DS-CHANGE is built on strong collaborations with KNUST, the University of Washington (UW), Seattle Children's Hospital and Research Institute, and the non-profit Smile Train. These partnerships ensure access to global expertise and cutting-edge research opportunities.   

This workshop serves as a platform to share insights from the past year, showcasing the establishment of a dynamic industry-academia-collaboration that fosters innovation and knowledge exchange in biomedical data science.
